What you are looking at
each flower starts as one randomly generated petal, just a closed curve through a handful of random radii, repeated k times around a centre. no matter how rough that one petal looks, the whole thing ends up perfectly k-fold symmetric.
the flower grows by stacking more layers of that same petal, each one a bit bigger and rotated a bit further. every flower is either all purple or all yellow, filled in at low opacity, so where petals overlap you get brighter cores and the whole flat drawing starts reading like it has depth.
